13-15 year old Baseball

Prior to the 2008 season, Baseball was not offered beyond Little League programming age 12. Over the last two seasons, Chanhassen Baseball has experimented with appropriate programming in an effort to keep children playing baseball in Chanhassen. In 2008, Baseball was extended to 13-year olds with interleague play with Eden Prairie. The 2009 season had seen a focus on Metro Baseball, a city wide traveling program. The 2010 season will see a combination of these two experiences. It is our pleasure to combine both recreational league play and Metro Baseball in an effort to satisfy the needs of all children who want to continue participating in Baseball.

13-year olds. Metro Baseball and In-house Baseball will be offered. At this point, Metro Travel will offer 1 AA team of 12 players. Additional teams will be added if interest warrants. Anyone signing up for Metro Travel who does not make the team will be placed on an In-house team. We anticipate fielding 2 teams at this level.

Additionally, continued Baseball will be offered for both 14 and 15-year olds.

14-year olds. Metro Baseball and In-house Baseball will be offered. 1 Metro Travel team will be offered of 12 players. Anyone signing up for Metro Travel who does not make the team will be placed on an In-house Co-op team with 15-year olds.

At age 15, 3 levels of Baseball will be offered in 2010. Junior Legion, Metro Baseball and In-house Baseball will be offered.

>Junior Legion players will be selected by the Chanhassen High School coaching staff. Similarly to last year, the Junior Legion team will play a 16AA schedule through Metro Baseball.

>Those players who do not play Junior Legion will be eligible to participate and try out for Metro Baseball. This team will play a 15AA schedule

>Players who are not on either of the Junior Legion or Metro Baseball teams will play In-house Baseball in a co-op 14/15-year old league. This league will play surrounding communities and a Tournament Team will be offered to those boys who want to participate.

Evaluations for all ages 13-year olds will occur during the Spring in conjunction with Little League evaluations. 14-year old evaluations will co-op with Chaska Youth Baseball. The initial plan is to funnel kids to the high school they will attend. This may change the team offerings in that additional Metro Travel teams may be offered. If you are interested in playing baseball in Chanhassen, please sign up at chanhassenathleticassociation.com.

Any player who makes a Junior Legion team will be given a full refund with no withdrawal penalty.

ALL-STAR TEAMS SELECTION

Three All-Star teams will be selected to represent Chanhassen Little League.  Team selection will be announced on June 15.

  • Little League (Age 11-12)
  • Age 10-11
  • Age 9-10

The first team (Little League Age 11-12) is voted by majors players and coaches, the second & third teams (Ages 10-11 & Ages 9-10) are determined by coaches and a selection of board members.  Ballots will be prepared listing players registered through on-line process.

Players from minor and rookie league will be considereed for the 10-11 and 9-10 teams.  (last year's 9-10 team had 7 majors and 5 minors players)

Parents must register players on-line for their player to be added to the ballots, by registering they:

  1. confirm residency
  2. confirm eligible age
  3. commit to the dates (this is important as players are required to attend practices and games)

Registering does not guarantee a spot on the team

Parents can register a player for one or two ballots if a player is league age eligible for two teams

Little Leagues
Majors -This is the most competitive in-house little league. All 12 year olds are required to play in the majors unless a parent/player asks for a waiver to play in the minors. Also, all returning major league players are automatically placed in the majors. The remaining major league players are selected from the top scores from the 10-11 year evaluations. The number of 10-11 year olds needed is determined after registrations are received.
Since the registration site only allows league age 12 year olds to register in the majors:
·         If you are a returning major league player and not league age 12, you will need to register as 10-11 player minors and you will be automatically moved into the majors.
·         If you are currently in the 6th grade, but not league age 12 and you want to play in the majors, you must register for 10-11 minors and notify tom_lindquist@mchsi.com that you want to play in the major and you will automatically be moved. Since the majors is the highest level of play several league age 11 year olds in 6th grader use the evaluation process to determine whether they play in minors/majors.

Minors - This is a highly competitive league consists of 10-11 year old players and the top evaluated 9 year old players. The number of 9 year olds needed is determined after registrations are received.
·         If you are currently in the 4th grade, but not league age 10, and you want to play in the minors, you must register for rookies and notify tom_lindquist@mchsi.com that you want to play in the minors and you will automatically be moved.

Rookies – This competitive player pitch league consists of 9-10 year olds and the top evaluated 8 year olds. This is typically the first player pitch league for 9 year olds. The number of 8 year olds needed is determined after registrations are received.
·          If you are currently in the 3rd grade, but are not league age 9 and you want to play in the rookies, you must register for 7-8 machine pitch and notify tom_lindquist@mchsi.com that you want to play in the rookies and you will automatically be moved.

7/8 Machine Pitch – This machine pitch league is for 7-8 year olds.
·         If you are currently in the 1st grade, but are not league age 7 and you want to play machine pitch, you must register for 6 year old coach pitch and notify tom_lindquist@mchsi.com that you want to play machine pitch and you will automatically be moved.
